There is more after the dot than .com

We carry 871 extensions. Most people only ever consider three of them, which is why the good short names on those three went years ago.

Where to start

Grouped by what you are actually building

A handful worth considering for each kind of site, with the first-year price. The full list of every extension we carry is on the pricing page.

01

The classics

Recognised everywhere, and the safe answer when the name is free on one.

.com $13.60
.net $15.42
.org $11.04 renews $18.19
.uk $5.07
02

For a shop

Says what the site is before anyone clicks it.

.store $2.59 renews $68.24
.shop $2.59 renews $52.01
.online $2.59 renews $44.68
03

For software and technical work

Short, and still findable - a lot of good names remain.

.io $58.49 renews $84.37
.app $18.46
.tech $5.19 renews $79.61
.cloud $26.26
04

For a studio or agency

Reads as deliberate rather than as a second choice.

.studio $21.46 renews $50.40
.agency $9.09 renews $38.99
.design $72.53
.live $5.19 renews $40.61
Choosing one

Three things worth knowing first

None of this is complicated, but the third one costs people money every year.

01

The name matters more than the ending

A short, memorable name on a fitting extension beats an awkward hyphenated .com every time. Nobody has struggled to remember a .studio since about 2015.

02

The ending can do some of the work

A .store tells somebody what the site is before they arrive. A .agency does the same. That is a small amount of free explanation you would otherwise pay for.

03

Check the renewal, not just the first year

This is the one that catches people. Of the extensions we carry, around 260 renew for at least double the first-year price and over a hundred for five times it or more. The pricing table shows both figures side by side.

Questions

About picking an extension

Torn between two? Start a chat - we will give you an opinion rather than a shrug.

Is a .com still worth paying more for?

Often, yes - if the name you want is available on one. But a compromised name on a .com, with hyphens or an odd spelling, is usually worse than a clean name on a fitting extension. Judge the whole thing, not the ending.

Do the newer extensions rank worse in search?

No. Google has said repeatedly that extension is not a ranking factor. What does matter is whether people trust the address enough to click it, which is about the name as much as the ending.

Which ones are cheapest?

Around fifty extensions start under $3 for the first year. Check the renewal before you commit though - .fun registers at $1.29 and renews at $48.74, and it is not the only one shaped like that. Both figures are on the pricing table.

Can I have more than one?

Yes, and plenty of businesses register two or three around a name to keep the obvious variants. The bulk search checks a shortlist against every extension at once.

Are there rules about who can register some of them?

A few have restrictions - some require a local presence, a profession, or a trademark. If one you want is restricted we will tell you before you order rather than after it fails.

What if the extension I want is not on your list?

Ask us. The list runs to 871 and it does change, so something missing today is worth a question rather than an assumption. If we cannot get it we will say so plainly rather than steer you to something close.

Not sure which one fits?

Describe the business and we will suggest names across the extensions that suit it - and only ones you can actually register.
